Life can change in an instant. For Prasannah, a former school cricket player, devoted husband, loving father, and hardworking hydraulic operator, that change began with injuries sustained during the final days of the war in Vanni in 2009. What seemed like a painful chapter of the past has now become a life-threatening medical condition that threatens everything he holds dear.
Today, Prasannah is courageously battling severe liver failure. Despite undergoing extensive medical treatment, making major lifestyle changes, and fighting with determination for years, his condition has continued to deteriorate. Doctors have confirmed that a liver transplant is now his only chance of survival.
But beyond the medical reports and hospital visits is a man whose greatest wish is simple — to stay alive for his family.
Prasannah is the father of two daughters. One is preparing for her Advanced Level examinations, while the younger is only six years old. He dreams of seeing them grow, guiding them through life, celebrating their achievements, and simply being present as a father. His wife, a dedicated primary school teacher, has stood beside him throughout this painful journey while also caring for their household, which includes both his mother and mother-in-law.
In 2025, during the reunion of the Hindu College Colombo Batch of 2003 in Sri Lanka, Prasannah reunited with his schoolmates and friends. At that point, he had almost lost hope — emotionally drained by his condition and overwhelmed by the enormous cost of treatment.
However, his friends refused to let him face this battle alone.
With encouragement from Dr. Rajiv, Secretary of the Hindu College Colombo OBA 2025, Prasannah found the strength to move forward with the transplant process. Today, there is hope. A donor has been identified, and the transplant is planned to take place by 20 May 2026.
The only obstacle standing in the way is funding.
Prasannah is currently receiving treatment at Kings Hospital Colombo under the care of Dr. Thamara Perera. His friends, classmates, and old boys’ associations have already begun fundraising efforts across the world, including a GoFundMe campaign launched in Canada to help cover the transplant, hospital care, medications, and recovery expenses.
Every donation — no matter how small — brings Prasannah one step closer to life-saving surgery and more precious time with his family.
If you are unable to contribute financially, you can still make a tremendous difference by sharing his story with others.

Liver Transplant Surgery Begins
24 May 2026 – 09:33 AM
Prasannah was admitted for his life-saving liver transplant surgery at Kings Hospital Colombo. Family members, friends, old boys, teachers, and supporters from around the world joined together in prayer and hope as the operation began.
At the time of surgery, more than 200 people had already contributed towards the medical expenses through the GoFundMe campaign. Thanks to the incredible generosity shown by supporters worldwide, over two-thirds of the required amount had been raised before the surgery commenced.
During this update, supporters were informed that while the surgery expenses were still not fully covered, the biggest challenge ahead would be the post-surgery recovery and long-term medical care. An appeal was also made for short-term accommodation in Colombo for Prasannah and his mother, as he would need to remain close to the hospital for regular weekly consultations following the transplant.
Surgery Successfully Completed
24 May 2026 – 11:45 AM
A few hours later, the family received the wonderful news everyone had been praying for.
Prasannah’s liver transplant surgery was successfully completed.
This marked a major milestone in his battle for survival and gave hope not only to him, but also to his wife, daughters, family members, friends, and everyone who stood beside him throughout this difficult journey.
The family expressed heartfelt gratitude to all donors, supporters, old boys, teachers, past principals, and well-wishers whose prayers, encouragement, and financial support helped make this life-saving surgery possible.
Recovery Phase and Outstanding Hospital Costs
29 May 2026
Prasannah is now out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and has been transferred to the General Ward, which is a positive sign in his recovery journey.
However, the financial burden is still significant.
So far, approximately Rs. 13 million Sri Lankan Rupees has already been paid to the hospital. An additional Rs. 6 million Sri Lankan Rupees is urgently required to settle the remaining hospital bill before discharge, together with the ongoing medical, recovery, medication, and post-care expenses.
The GoFundMe campaign continues to raise funds towards the overall target of CAD 80,000. At present, approximately 60% of the target has been achieved.
As the funds are raised in Canada and transferred internationally to Sri Lanka, the transfer and processing also require additional time. Therefore, completing the fundraising campaign as quickly as possible is extremely important to avoid delays in hospital payments and recovery arrangements.
Continuing Recovery and Community Support
Although the surgery has been successful, Prasannah’s recovery journey is only beginning. He will require:
- Ongoing medications
- Weekly specialist consultations
- Clinical monitoring and follow-up care
- Temporary accommodation in Colombo during recovery
- Financial support for post-transplant care
The overwhelming support shown by the global Hindu College Colombo community, old boys, teachers, past principals, friends, and well-wishers has been truly remarkable. This campaign has demonstrated the power of unity, compassion, and community support during a life-changing moment for one of our own.
Prasannah and his family remain deeply grateful to everyone who has donated, shared the fundraiser, offered prayers, and supported him throughout this journey.
Please Continue Supporting Prasannah’s Recovery
Even though the surgery has been completed successfully, urgent financial support is still needed for the remaining hospital bills and post-transplant recovery care.
We kindly request everyone to continue sharing the fundraiser and supporting the campaign in any way possible.
